Olympic Meeting

Groups across Tamworth are being urged to come together to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity as the Olympic Torch comes to town.

The borough council is planning a big event to mark the historic day and is now looking for sporting groups across the borough to get involved.

A special meeting is set to take place on Thursday February 16th at the Assembly Rooms, starting at 6pm.

The meeting will unveil exciting plans for an Olympic Festival which will take place in the Castle Grounds on June 30, to coincide with the torch’s arrival in Tamworth, and it is hoped thousands of people will come along for this once is lifetime opportunity.

The event will run all day and will celebrate the wide range of sporting activities the town has to offer.

The news that the Olympic Torch was coming to Tamworth was announced in November with the help of two of the games local hopefuls; 400m hurdlers Meghan Beasley and Nathan Woodward, both aged 22.

Tamworth Borough Council has been working with the London 2012 Olympic organising committee (LOCOG) for a number of months to make this a reality.
