Mayor’s Chat with Duke at Royal Garden Party

The Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Tina Clements, attended the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee garden party at Buckingham House earlier this week, where the Duke of Edinburgh asked her about Tamworth pigs!

The Mayor and her consort, Simon Clements, were invited to the special jubilee party after being nominated by Tamworth Borough Council Chief Executive, Tony Goodwin, and Leader, Cllr Danny Cook.

They spent the day at Buckingham Palace where they mingled with around 5,000 civic dignitaries, military personnel, heads of business and ambassadors from countries around the world.

“It was a fabulous day and a once in a lifetime event,” said Cllr Clements.  “We wandered around the gardens as we waited for the royal party.  When they arrived, it was Prince Philip who walked down our line.  He stopped to talk to me and asked me where I was from.  When I told him, he asked me how the Tamworth pigs were doing!

“It was an amazing day, and to be able to go to a Royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in a Jubilee year was an experience I will never forget.”

Cllr Clements paid tribute to the Queen, saying, “Her Majesty the Queen has served our country well, and has done an amazing job.”
