Employment figures for the last quarter show 29.68 million people are now in employment. This means that 552,000 more people are employed than this time last year – a year-on-year increase of 1.1%.
The number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance has also continued to fall, down by 12,100 last month. In the last three months, unemployment has fallen by nearly 40,000, meaning there are now fewer people unemployed than when the Government came to power in May 2010.
The figures from the ONS also showed that there were more women in employment than ever before.
