Local Boxing Club Enjoys Olympic Boost

boxingThe boxing club in Tamworth has said a rise in interest since the London Olympic Games has led to a “constant stream” of new people trying the sport.

After receiving a £48,000 grant by Sport England, Tamworth Amateur Boxing Club has been able to double the size of its gym by moving to new premises just off the town centre.

Coach Alan Keest said, “We’ve got the advantage of having three rings where before we only had one.”

Dr Jonathan Grix, from the University of Birmingham, believes people will have to “wait a little longer” to judge the scale of any Olympic legacy as it is common to get “a spike of interest” after a major sporting event.
