Tenants Invited to Second Annual Conference

TBCCouncil tenants in Tamworth are being invited to the second annual tenant conference organised to give them the chance to have their say on housing services, hear about the latest developments, listen to guest speakers and much more.

The first tenant conference, which took place in 2012, was hailed as a big success, attracting more than 100 tenants.

This year’s tenant conference is being held at Tamworth Assembly Rooms on Tuesday March 25, and will run from noon until 7pm.  It is hoped that a large number of council tenants and leaseholders will attend.

The conference will showcase the environmental works, which have been carried out across the borough, as well as promoting what the authority will be offering for its tenants over the coming year.  Visitors will also get the chance to have their say on what the authority is doing, and will be able to meet and talk to partners including repairs contractor Mears.

The day is split into two sessions.  The first session starts at 12noon and will feature a number of guest speakers, including Tamworth Borough Council Chief Executive Tony Goodwin, Insp Ashley Farrington from Staffordshire Police and Gavin Scott from Mears.  Places are limited, so any tenants wishing to attend from 12noon to 2pm will need to book to guarantee a seat.  Tickets are free and a buffet lunch will be provided.

Then from 2pm until 7pm, the conference will become a drop-in event, where anyone can come along at a time to suit them.  There will be a large number of exhibition stands, free help and advice, opportunities to ask questions and put forward suggestions for improving the housing service, as well as free goodies.

The conference is completely free to attend, and everyone who comes along will be entered into a prize draw to win prizes including a tablet computer.  Free transport is available for those who need it.

Cllr Michael Greatorex, Cabinet member for Housing, said, “This is the ideal opportunity for our tenants to tell us how we can improve the services we offer them, to ask questions and make their voices heard.

“This is the second time that we have run a conference like this, with our first event two years ago being a big success.  I would encourage as many tenants as possible to come along, either to the morning session to hear the guest speakers or to the afternoon and evening drop-in sessions.”

To reserve a place at the 12noon session, to request transport or for more information, please contact the Tenant Involvement team on 01827 709260 / 709374 or email tenantparticipation@tamworth.gov.uk.  Places for the first session are limited, so please let us know by March 17 if you would like to attend.
