Pensioner Group Enjoys Seaside Trip, Thanks to Small Grant

Sacred Heart tripA group of pensioners enjoyed a day trip to Weston-super-Mare, after being awarded £500 from Tamworth Borough Council’s Voluntary & Community Grants scheme.

Members of the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens Club enjoyed a day out in Weston this summer, thanks to the £500 grant. The group, which has 30 members, meets every week at Sacred Heart Centre in Glascote to socialise and improve mental health and wellbeing, have a cup of tea and a game of bingo.

Club organisers were delighted to receive the grant from the council’s Voluntary & Community Grants scheme, which allowed them to lay on something a bit different for the members and gave them a day out at the seaside.

Volunteer Debbie James from the group said, “On behalf of Sacred Heart friendship club, I would like to thank Tamworth Borough Council for the recent grant you generously gave to us. This was used for the club members to have a day trip to the seaside. They had a most enjoyable and fun-filled day at Weston-super-Mare.”

Cllr Rob Pritchard, Chairman of the Cabinet Grants Committee, said, “Tamworth Borough Council is keen to support as many local voluntary organisations, sports clubs and community groups as possible, and we were really pleased that we were able to help the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens Club have a day out at the seaside.

“If your community group, arts group, heritage group or sports club is running a project which helps to make Tamworth a better place, help local residents or just give people something to do, please get in touch – we might be able to support you too.”

Grants are available to community groups and voluntary organisations, which run in the borough to allow them to develop and continue to provide their vital services. To apply for a grant, please contact Karen Clancy at Tamworth Borough Council on 01827 709565.
