I attended Staffordshire County Council’s latest public health scrutiny meeting with Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust earlier this week (Monday 27th April) and yet again heard a different story on Sir Robert Peel hospital to one that has been put out by some political parties both before and during this election campaign.
Helen Ashley, Chief Executive of BHFT, confirmed that talks are continuing with Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust on future usage of the surgical theatre and surgical ward at Sir Robert Peel. Ms Ashley also stated that a meeting would take place next week with the new Chief Executive of HEFT and no final decision on the future of the theatre and surgical ward would be decided until the Burton Hospitals Board of Directors meet on Thursday 4th June.
The Trust also said staff levels in the theatre and surgical ward have been maintained and the overall staff levels at SRP have not changed throughout 2014/15.
It is good to know that, despite what anybody claims, no final decision has been made and talks are continuing on the future use of the Sir Robert Peel hospital.
I would also like to add I was surprised not to see any other political party representing Tamworth at the meeting; especially as 30 minutes were set aside in the agenda for questions from the public.
