Gungate Traders Staging a Monster Street Event

OliversDinosaur fans of all ages are being promised a monster day to remember, when Gungate traders come together with Tamworth’s Town Team to put on a prehistoric street party.

The dinosaur-themed street party will run throughout the day on Saturday June 13 in Gungate, where there will be prehistoric street entertainment and stalls and lots more dinosaur-based fun.

The event has been organised by Joshua Smith from Comictopia and Dave xxx from Olivers.  Its aim is to raise the profile of Gungate and its businesses and show shoppers and visitors what Gungate has to offer.

The day has been given a prehistoric theme to tie in with the release of the new Jurassic Park blockbuster, Jurassic World.  Joshua will have some real-live lizards and other creatures at his Comictopia comic store, which visitors can handle, and Dave from Olivers will be dishing up dinosaur burgers.

Costumed characters will add to the prehistoric party atmosphere in Gungate and the organisers are hoping that the dinosaur-themed event will draw big crowds.

The organisers are hoping to get at least 25 stalls along Gungate and are inviting residents, shoppers and visitors to come along and see what the businesses in the street have to offer, as well as joining in the dinosaur-themed fun.

Tamworth Borough Council is supporting the event by giving a grant of £15 per stall.  This means that every business taking a stall on the day will only have to pay £10 instead of the usual £25.

Andy Longhurst from Optimal Web Marketing and Alan Moore from Past Ltd have each offered to fund five stalls with donations of £50.

Cllr Steve Claymore, Cabinet member for Economy & Education, said, “The Gungate area of Tamworth is home to a number of independent businesses, with new traders moving in.  We are pleased to be able to support this event, which will help to raise the profile of a thriving part of the town centre and showcase its traders.”

Anyone who would like to offer sponsorship for the event or get involved as a trader should contact Joshua at
