Police Warning About Bogus Pest Controller

Staffordshire PolicePolice are again warning residents in the Tamworth area to be on their guard against bogus officials.

In an incident on Wednesday, September 17, a man claiming to be a pest controller needing to deal with a complaint about rats attempted to gain access to a property in Glascote area of Tamworth.

DC Paul Whitehouse of Staffordshire Police, said, “Fortunately, the elderly resident told the man to go away.  However, we are concerned that there have been several similar incidents recently, reporting similar descriptions of the male caller and vehicle.

“The man is described as a white male, about 30 years of age and about 5ft 7” tall.  He is of stocky build and spoke with a local accent.  He was wearing a dark pullover and dark blue trousers.  He is travelling in what is described as a silver or grey type vehicle.”

Earlier this week Fazeley residents were warned about a bogus official who had asked an elderly woman for £120 to cut down a tree causing problems with the drains.

Detectives believe the incidents could be linked.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 344 of September 16.
