The authority and Town Team Destination Tamworth won the Best All Round Small Business Friendliness category at an event run by the Federation of Small Businesses Staffordshire and West Midlands Region, in recognition of its ongoing support for the town centre.
The awards are given for initiatives which positively aim to support and develop the local business community.
Tamworth was chosen as the winner in recognition of its ongoing support, investment and regeneration programmes which help to boost small businesses in the town, including the Gateways project, I Am Tamworth, the ongoing arts & events programme, Created in Tamworth, investment in new businesses and the Independents Day initiative.
Last year, Tamworth’s Town Team, Destination Tamworth, was highly commended in the same category.
Karen Woolley, Development Manager for the FSB Staffordshire & West Midlands said, “This is the fourth year of running our Small Business Friendly Awards and we are delighted to award Tamworth Borough Council our ‘Best All Round Small Business Friendly’ award this year.
“Tamworth has been consistent in its commitment and dedication to the needs of the small businesses across the town and, year on year, has demonstrated its understanding of the needs of and barriers to growth for our members and other small businesses.”
She added, “We felt that the two projects put forward this year aimed at rejuvenating the town centre and providing support to the smallest of firms were a sterling example of support to small businesses and are very happy to have given this award.”
The latest win comes hot on the heels of the news that Tamworth has been shortlisted as one of three finalists in the prestigious Great British High Street competition, where it will battle it out against Rotherham and Altrincham for the top title.
Cllr Steve Claymore, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Economy, said, “The FSB award is yet another accolade which shows that Tamworth continues to go from strength to strength and I am delighted that all the ongoing hard work on the regeneration projects and support for businesses has been recognised with this much-deserved award, on top of the shortlising for the Great British High Street.
“It is a tribute to all the hard work which goes into helping and supporting Tamworth’s businesses to grow and develop and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in making this happen.”
