Tamworth Borough Council and other members of the Partnership – including Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, domestic abuse groups, drug & alcohol counselling services, and the Clinical Commissioning Group – will again be working together for a safer Christmas.
And to help spread the festive message in style Chambers Tamworth Hyundai has kindly donated a Hyundai Tucson Premium SE, which has been decked out with the Christmas Crackdown logo. Partners including police and community support officers will be taking the vehicle out on evening patrols throughout December, as well as visiting local primary and secondary schools.
The Christmas Crackdown campaign is now in its second year and also builds on the recent success of this year’s Spooks & Sparklers campaign, which saw partners working together to tackle issues of anti-social behaviour and safety during the Halloween and Bonfire Night period.
The initiative aims to reduce crime and disorder in the run-up to Christmas, as well as giving prevention and safety advice.
Cllr Stephen Doyle, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Community Development, said, “We are very grateful to Chambers for the provision of the car during the Christmas Crackdown campaign. It means the campaign will have a visual presence on the streets of Tamworth when officers are out and about spreading the word and helping to keep people safe this festive season.”
All operations and events carried out by partners during December come under the Christmas Crackdown umbrella. They will tackle priority issues including shoplifting, drink driving, personal safety, burglary and purse snatching.
A number of events are being held across Tamworth throughout the month, where police, community wardens and other partners will be on hand to offer help and advice on staying safe, as well as handing out Christmas Crackdown leaflets containing festive tips to allow people to keep themselves and their property safe.
Janice Howes, general manager at Chambers Tamworth, said, “We provided a car for the recent Spooks & Sparklers campaign and we were happy to do so again. As a business, we are part of this community and we like to give our support where possible.”
