JLR’s Confidence is a Badge of Honour for the West Midlands

Anthea McIntyre at JLRAnthea McIntyre, West Midlands Conservative MEP, today welcomed reports that Jaguar Land Rover is planning a massive £500 million investment in new premises in the region.

Press reports suggest the luxury motor giant is set to announce the building of new facilities just outside Coventry, less than a year after a similarly huge investment in a plant at Castle Bromwich.

The plan for a suite of JLR offices in the Gateway North development near Coventry Airport is predicted to clear capacity at the company’s Whitley headquarters, where hundreds of research and development jobs would be created.

Ultimately, reports suggest, the Coventry complex could include a manufacturing plant and herald the return of JLR car making to the city for the first time since 2005.

Miss McIntyre said, “If this scale of investment becomes a reality that will be wonderful news and further evidence that the Midlands Engine is powering ahead.  It shows once again that the great name of Jaguar Land Rover is synonymous with the great region of the West Midlands.

“Blue riband companies want to invest in our blue riband workforce – hard-working, highly skilled, versatile and adaptable.  That kind of confidence in our people, our communications network and our ingenuity is a huge badge of honour for our region.

“If the development ultimately sees JLR broadening its offering to include greater advanced electric-car technology, then so much the better.  Once more it will be the West Midlands technology leading the way.”
