Burton Hospitals Trust Appoints New Chief Executive

Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust logoBurton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has announced the appointment of Helen Scott-South as its new Chief Executive.

Helen Scott-South, previously Interim Chief Executive at Derby Teaching Hospitals, took up the role yesterday, 15 March, and joins newly announced Chair of Burton Hospitals, John Rivers, as the new Board leadership team for the Trust.

John Rivers, Chair of Burton Hospitals said, “Helen brings immense focus and a sense of real energy and pace to everything she does.  This makes her the ideal person to lead the Trust as it continues its journey of improvement post-special measures.

“As it explores plans that respond both to the changing needs of the communities we serve and to the financial challenges the Trust currently faces.  I’m delighted Helen has agreed to join us and we welcome her to the Trust.”

A statement issued by Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust went on to say, “Helen Scott-South brings a vast array of senior healthcare leadership experience to the role, and has spent the last five years at Derby Teaching Hospitals, initially as Chief Operating Officer and recently as Interim Chief Executive.

“Helen was previously the Director of Operations at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and has worked as a Board Director within several other large teaching hospitals

“The decision to appoint Helen comes as the Trust looks at strengthening its collaborative working arrangements with partners across Staffordshire and Derbyshire, as it explores potential strategic options for the future.”

Helen Scott-South said, “I look forward to working closely with the Board and with our clinical leaders to explore innovative ways of providing high quality and sustainable services to our patients.

“This will involve building on the clinical collaboration already in place with partners across the region, such as with Derby Teaching Hospitals.  This is a time of exciting transformation for the Trust as we ready ourselves for the future, and I am thrilled to be on board.”
